Austin

David and I spent the weekend in Austin as I was traveling for a conference. I wasn't really sure what to expect but had heard it was "one of the best places to live". We ventured down to 6th Street Friday night to see what downtown had in store. We found out it was a street full of hole-in-the-wall bars. We made the rounds and stopped at the Dizzy Rooster (from the Real World) as well as Coyote Ugly (definitely scary), walked in and out of Jackalope (one too many tatoos and nose rings) and listened to a band at a new bar called Ninas (?). Now I know why they say "keep Austin weird".

We had dinner at Iron Works BBQ Friday night. We wanted to experience Texas BBQ and had heard this was the place to go.

I had the chicken which came with potato salad (love that mayo), baked beans (cold, I believe, I didn't try them) and a slice of white bread....yum. The chicken was really good, luckily I also had a trip to the salad bar to round out the meal. Dave tried the sliced beef sandwich with spicy BBQ sauce, which was also a winner.

On Saturday, we ate lunch at Serranos Tex-Mex Mesquite, which was really good...and spicy. I was surprised to see my Uncle Dick enjoying lunch as well. I think the lunch special was goat head.

Saturday night, we found out what it is like to be a longhorn for a day. We tailgated at Posse East before heading to the game.

You could barely see us in the sea of orange.
