Almost Registered
Today was the day for pre-registering. Actually, we started 2 weeks ago at Macys and today we traveled to Walnut Creek to check out Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma. I had to explain to David that first, you have to go and look at all your options, feel the weight of the glassware, pitcher and so on and then decide on the patterns and which toaster oven you like the best. Big decision time :)
And of course while we're there - might as well visit the other fine stores in Walnut Creek. David decided that they should create a TV room for the men to hang out in each store while the ladies are in the fitting rooms. Somehow he survived. The best thing is that in February, Crate and Barrel opens their doors two hours early for registerees so we can walk around the store with the scanner in one hand and a mimosa in the other. Sounds like fun to me!
After tomorrow, we'll be half way through our members class at Calvary Reformed Church. It's been nice to get to know our pastor better and interesting to learn about how the Dutch settled in Ripon and formed Calvary almost 70 years ago.
We're thisclose to ordering invitations and booking the rehersal dinner site and... I got a refund from our estranged photographer (what a weirdo!) . With all the big items checked off the list, it's been nice to relax a little and work on some of the fun things like the music list, hair styles and shoes!

Happy New Year!
The plan was to sail to the Catalina Islands from Newport Beach to celebrate the beginning of 2007. Three boats and 4 attempts to sail 26 miles and the boat finally made it! On our first trip out we made it about 2 miles before the alarm and cloud of steam informed us that the engine was overheating. After a couple attempts to fix it we were forced to call Vessel Assist. I got my wish for calm waters...turned out it was too calm - the 0 mph winds made sailing impossible without the engine. At this point, David, Bryan, Rochelle and I decided to spend the night in Newport Beach, have an excellant Italian meal and spend the night at the Hyatt.
After the mechanic replaced the faulty part, the other 4 members of the crew ventured out onto the ocean that night only to be towed back again by Vessel Assist (a captain's nightmare). The next morning they transfered all their belongings and food to a smaller sail boat but this time they didn't even make it out of the harbor before problems arose. Meanwhile we were enojying our Mimosas on the Catalina Express ferry motoring over to the island. The faithful crew finally got upgraded to a twin engine power boat and arrived soon after we did. We spent the afternoon on the boat fishing and relaxing before the New Years festivities began. This morning we rode the ferry back to Long Beach and headed back to the Central Valley. Last we heard the Jewell of the Nile was docked in Catalina waiting for the mechanic to arrive!
